  3.    It is important that you set up your file in the order of these menu
  4. options. This one first then names, then the register. You are strongly
  5. advised to copy this disc so that if you do have major problems you can
  6. start again. Setting up is straight forward if you obey the instructions
  7. carefully. To customise your menus you will have to replace the CTC sprite
  8. in the file SPCTC by your own school logo and the title string at the
  9. beginning of the program. Colours could also be redefined. Computer
  10. literate staff or pupils should be able to do this for you quite simply.

  12.     Each school has its own way of grouping pupils, but most use tutor
  13. groups of one type or another. The program assumes that you will deal with
  14. not more than 240 pupils on one machine and that each tutor group will
  15. contain no more than 30 pupils. All features of the program will work
  16. properly with more than 30 in a group with the exception of list by tutor
  17. group which gives a screen view of a block of the register. In this case
  18. only the first 30 students will be displayed if there are more than 30 in
  19. the group.
  20.     In order to make things easier in operation this part of the program
  21. allows you to set up a tutor menu for use in the program itself. You can
  22. identify tutor groups by a short code, - the year group followed by up to 3
  23. characters eg 1SM - and by a longer version for titles and the menu eg 1 St.
  24. Martin. (At present the year group designator should be 1 character despite
  25. the NC! Also it is safest to use the full 4 character code for the
  26. abbreviation as this has been more thoroughly tested) If you simply want to
  27. use 1ABC for both identifiers this is OK too. The long/short method is useful
  28. in schools which call tutor groups after the teacher for example. If you
  29. make a mistake during this set up use the delete key if you have not pressed
  30. RETURN otherwise start again.
  31.      Simply press the left hand mouse button to select and follow the
  32. prompts.
